Then It's All Just A Bunch Of Matter

Long-sleeve Brown Shirt - Old Navy, years ago
Gold Multi-layered Chain Necklace - Forever 21 ($3)
Green Wool Pencil Skirt - Ann Taylor via Goodwill ($2!)
Suede Leopard Print Pumps - Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters ($10)

So yeah, I am seriously wearing a wool skirt today. Quite a contrast from my last post, no? Well, the weather became slightly autumn-ish today, so I jumped at the opportunity to wear this newly acquired skirt. I love the classic lines and sturdy fabric - I know it's a piece I'll get a lot of wear out of during the fall and winter.
This skirt is one of my purchases from the thrifting extravaganza that I embarked upon yesterday. I'm a huge fan of Goodwill (there are three in my local area), and yesterday was their semi-annual $2 sale. Ever clothing item in the store was $2, so I took the opportunity to stock up on some new (to me) items for my closet. While I didn't necessarily get all the items I was looking for (still no jean jacket!), I did get some nice things I was pretty psyched about. Besides the above skirt, here are the other pieces I thrifted:

Vintage Cream Long-sleeve Bodysuit, Vintage Striped Sweater, Proenza Schouler for Target Printed Button-down

Vintage Handmade Sundress, Merona Blue Linen Sundress, Vintage Gray Sweater dress, Merona Peach Satin Sheath

Mossimo Red Dress, Gap Strapless Brown Sheath, Windsor Strapless Lace Dress

Vintage Peach Linen Pencil Skirt, H&M Floral Print Tunic

Altogether I picked up 13 items, which brought my grand total for the day to a measly $26! Remember, $2 day was to be the only exception to my "no shopping for a month" vow. That means I still have 2 weeks to go. I think all the new stuff I just bought should be more than enough to tide me over for at least the next two weeks.

All The Girls Want Hot-N-Fun

White Linen Blazer - Sears ($7)
Captain's Wheel Romper - Anthropologie, Gift
White Bike Shorts - Random mall store ($3)
Clear Jelly Sandals - GAP ($6)
Black & White Leather ID bracelets - Disneyland ($10 each)

Finally we're getting some serious heat out here! 90 degrees by the beach is always a reason to celebrate. That means I have finally been able to wear all the summery outfits I had hoped to use ages ago. All the rompers I've purchased over the last six months have been in heavy rotation for the past week. This one is actually a little on the short side, so I like to wear bike shorts underneath for a little more modesty. The extra layer makes going to the bathroom quite an ordeal, however. Anything for fashion I suppose.

Since this is still officially vacation time, I've really been doing nothing of purpose. Reading, going to the beach, seeing tons of movies, shopping (ideally not for me!) - pretty much the life I wish I could always have. Yesterday I went to Santa Monica with my friend R to see a movie and do some shopping. We saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and it was everything I hoped it would be. I am a HUGE comic book and video game geek. Plus, I love Michael Cera so it really was the trifecta for me. If that's your sort of thing, I highly recommend it. The next movie on my list is The Switch. Jason Bateman is another huge comic crush of mine, so I've got high hopes for that movie.
As you'll all recall, I'm not supposed to be buying any clothes for a month. Two weeks have passed so far, but yesterday in Santa Monica was my breaking point. I fully intended to only help R find clothes or maybe pick up some back to school stuff for my nephew, but I broke down and bought a pair of jeans at H&M. Did you know all jeans are $10 off at H&M right now? I know it'll sound like I'm making excuses (which I am), but I currently do not own one pair of regular blue jeans (excluding jeggings). I got a super comfy pair for just $10 and it was the only clothing item I bought all day! Forgive me?

On the bright side, I recently was gifted $50 gift cards for both Target and Kohl's. While I'm not exactly a huge Kohl's fan, I figure using the gift cards should tide me over so I can continue for the next couple of weeks with my clothing strike. All of this is in an effort for me to stem my ever increasing credit card debt, so gift cards are fair game. Here's hoping I'll be able to exert a bit more self-control as I take my nephew back-to-school shopping.

I Know What You're Thinking

Blue Floral Print Sundress - Vintage, Long Beach Flea Market ($5)
Sea Green/Taupe elastic Belt - NY&CO via Ross ($6)
Gold Flower Cocktail Ring ($4) - Forever 21
Taupe Elastic Wedges - Attention, Kmart

This dress has really got me in a style rut. I love it, but every time I wear it, I pretty much always style it the same way.
See? So I am officially opening the floor to suggestions. How would you style this dress in a more creative manner? I'm looking for something a little more outside the box.
Nevertheless, today was pretty pleasant day. Sunny skies made it finally feel like it was actually summer. I worked a little in the morning and afternoon, and ended the day with an invigorating Zumba class. Yep, I said Zumba. It's basically an aerobic Latin dance class, and though I feel like a complete idiot when I'm in the class, it sure is a good workout! I highly recommend it.

Any big weekend plans on the horizon? I've got a picnic with friends Saturday and a going away party for another friend Sunday. And (drum-roll please) . . . . I am taking my nephews to Disneyland on Monday! Our passes are finally unblocked for the summer so I've got to make sure to take them at least once before school starts back up. It's been almost 2 months since we last went, so I'm super excited to get back to my old stomping grounds. And I'll be sure not to fall off any buildings. Or get drunk. It is a family place, after all.

On that note, I leave you with a close up of my lovely new ring. I bought it for my friend G's wedding, and I am certain it will soon be a regular fixture in my outfit shots. It's just so girly and cute. I can't help but love it!

And Maybe Two Is Better Than One

I totally intended to do a post yesterday, but the day just got away from me. Heck, even today got away from me, which is why I'm writing this post so late. But hey, that means tonight you'll get two outfit posts for the price of one!
Straw Fedora - Merona, Target ($12, years ago)
White Linen Sheath - Merona, Target ($8, years ago)
Blue Stripe Belt - Express, South Street Thrift Center ($2)
Taupe Elastic Wedge Heels - Attention, Kmart ($22)

Yesterday it finally warmed up a bit around here, so I took the opportunity to go for a quintessential summer look. The white, the linen, the straw fedora, the sunglasses - all pure summer in my book. I stayed cool as I ran errands, and even got a few compliments from some strangers.

This next look is what I wore tonight for my meeting. Although I rarely wear them, I am loving these heels. They are super high, but reasonably comfortable. I really need to wear them more often. Also, over my arm is my "new-to-me" navy trench coat. I bought it a couple months ago, but didn't pull it out of my closet until today. I took a few photos with the coat on, but they all came out terrible, so you'll just have to wait until the next time I wear it to see it in all it's glory. But believe me, it's adorable.
Black Cluster Necklace - Rampage, years ago
Purple Tie-Neck Blouse - Merona via Goodwill ($2)
Floral Print Pencil Skirt - Attention, Kmart ($2!)
Taupe T-strap Heels - Simply Vera, Kohl's ($2!, after using a coupon)
Navy Trench Coat - Vintage, South Street Thrift Center ($4!)

Don't I look a little naked (and a little like I have a lazy eye) without my sunglasses? They're like a safety blanket for me. And this might just be my cheapest outfit yet - just $10! Sometimes I even amaze myself.

In case you all aren't keeping up with my newly added twitter feed, I recently made the decision to avoid any frivolous spending for a month. For me, 99.9% of frivolous spending is done on clothing. It's really an addiction. So, starting last week, I have been valiantly trying not to do any clothes shopping. I already have so much that there cannot possibly any valid reason I'd have for buying something. However, in the interest of being honest with everyone, I will be making an exception for the the annual Goodwill $2 sale at the end of the month. But other than that, no shopping until September 10! One week down, three more to go.

No One Has To Know If We Decide To Go

Black Velvet Shrunken Blazer - Angie, Macy's, years ago
Cream Polka-dot Romper (worn as a blouse) - H&M ($10)
Red Strapless Cotton Dress (worn as a skirt) - Wet Seal ($10)
Elastic Black Bow Belt - H&M ($6)
Black Peep Toe Heels - Nine West (from a friend)

So today's outfit is pretty entertaining to me since my main pieces are not being used the way they were intended. I'm not typically very creative when it comes to this sort of thing, but I was attempting to channel Minnie Mouse here. I think it sort of worked.

Either way, I was extremely tired this morning so I wasn't up for over-thinking my ensemble. Last night my friend K and I held our first ever bonfire at a local beach, so I didn't get back home until 11:30 pm. By the end I had spent over 15 hours at the beach! A new personal record for sure. While other people took pictures, I was so distracted by giving directions, helping people unload and park, among other things, that I took none. So all you guys get is today's outfit.
Oddly enough, today might include another trip to the beach. Some friends are getting together for a pick up volleyball game. I am currently contemplating riding my bike down to join them. Having just eaten a delicious veggie burger with grilled onions, a bike ride might be just what I need. Or a nap. It's really a toss up at this point :)

I Don't Love Her As Much As I Glamorize Her

Black Sunglasses - H&M ($6)
Gold Wings Necklace - My Grandmother's
Red Floral Sundress - Jonathan Martin, Ross (years ago)
Black T-strap Flats - Wanted, Ross ($6)
Skinny Embossed Black Belt - Claire's ($2)

And I am back! Long weekend in San Diego is over, and I've come back to my usual, run-of-the-mill routine. Today's outfit was pretty boring. I've had this dress since I was in middle school, but I still like to wear it now and then. It's pretty comfy and is sufficiently summery. Nothing major, though.

So, as you all may recall, I went to San Diego last weekend to attend me good friend G's wedding. G and I have only known each other for the past two years, but I feel like we've known each other forever. Our friendship really solidified the spring of 2009 when we went to Spain together. It was two glorious weeks in a beautiful country where we really got to know each other. Here's us at the Plaza de Espana last year:
Flash forward to the present. I had the privilege of being there from day one when G met her husband and first started dating him. They are pretty much the most photogenic couple I have ever seen (outside of Brangelina), and, as cheesy as it sounds, it was so nice watching their love grow. Her wedding was perfect; she looked beautiful, he looked handsome, and everything went off without any issue, other than running a little late. Though J is taking her far away and they're moving to South Carolina (!), I am so happy for them. Even if I will miss her like mad.
Isn't her dress a dreamy dream? As to what I'm wearing:
Gold Dangly Jewel Earrings - Forever 21 ($3)
Pink Tiered Ruffle Dress - Merona, Target ($8!)
Gold Flower Cocktail Ring - Forever 21 ($4)
Tan Leather Platform Sandals - Chinese Laundry ($10!)

Sigh. I wish I had a wedding to go to every day.

Now We Get To Lay Back

Green Cardigan - Mom's
Floral Print Tiered Dress - Ross, years ago ($10?)
Purple Leather Belt - Vintage, Goodwill ($3)
Clear T-strap Jelly Sandals - GAP ($6)

So again, this is not what I wore today. Something must be really off this week. It seems I'm remembering to take outfit photos, but I can't seem to remember to write my posts until later. Oh well. At least this outfit is only one day old. I wore this yesterday to work and then to hang with some of my friends for the afternoon. Pretty fun stuff, especially since Yogurtland was involved! Do any of you have Yogurtland in your town? It's pretty much the highlight of my life. I go almost every week for their dreamy self-serve frozen yogurt. Actually, if I'm honest, it's more like I go twice a week. No judgments, please?
Back to the clothes: I have loved this dress for ages, but it really is too big for me. I always cinch it really tightly with a belt to hide the excess fabric because I can't bear to get rid of it. The flowers just scream summer! Also pictured: my new jelly sandals I bought at the Indian Wells mall when I was in the desert 2 weeks ago. They are super comfy, and I love how the clear color makes it look like I'm not even wearing shoes sometimes. That means they are neutral and can go with any outfit I choose!

On a completely different note, it's officially vacation time, round 2. I am currently sitting in my room at my friends' house in San Diego, contemplating what I should do tomorrow. I'm thinking I may hit up the swap-meet at Qualcomm Stadium, take a spin in downtown SD and maybe see a movie. Don't laugh, but I totally am dying to see Step-Up 3D. Tragic, I know, but I'm a sucker for dance movies. The cheesier, the better. I'll let you know how good/bad it is if I manage to make it to a theater.

Everytime I Touch That Track It Turns Into Gold

Brown Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters ($6)
Gold Bow Necklace - Vintage, Rose Bowl Flea Market ($5)
Pink Sheath - Vintage, Long Beach Flea Market ($5)
Gold Quilted Shoulder Bag - Free via clothing swap
Gold Patent Pumps - Steve Madden, Burlington Coat Factory ($10)

Honestly, this is not what I wore today. I never got around to taking and outfit photo but felt guilty about not doing a post all week. Hence, here is what I wore last Sunday to my meeting and then to an early dinner at El Torito Grill. Though I'm not a huge fan of the El Torito franchise, I LOVE the unlimited flour tortillas they give you. Way better than tortilla chips, in my opinion. Not very good for my waistline, but when have I ever let that bother me?
Anywho, this dress made it's first blog appearance here, and while I do love it, Sunday was only the second time I've worn it since I bought it. It's a wee bit snug (especially after eating half a dozen tortillas!), but I really liked how well the pale pink worked with my gold accessories. And I totally got to showcase my awesome thrifted bow necklace! It's giant, but it's basically my new favorite piece of jewelry.

So even though I only just got back from a week of vacation in the desert, I'm leaving again Friday to head down to San Diego for my friend G's wedding. I love weddings so I am pretty psyched to make a weekend of the whole thing. I bought a new dress and shoes weeks ago, so I can't wait to wear them and take pictures for you all to see. Another plus? Today was the last day of summer school! Woot woot. So I've got three weeks of freedom before I have to go back to work for the fall semester. Yay me!
