Blow Out That Cherry Bomb For Me

Square CZ studs - Mom's
Diamond Sweater Jacket - Vintage, Goodwill
Red Strapless Dress - Wet Seal
Clock Necklace - Mom's
Bow Clutch - Forever 21
Silver & Pear Ring - Silpada
Black Platform Pumps - Attention, Kmart

I definitely felt like a 'cherry bomb' (thank you, Spoon) in this dress today. I love the color red, but it is definitely more attention grabbing than my typical monochromatic outfits. I kept it simple with black and silver accessories, which gave me the opportunity to use some of my favorite items.

I got to use my sweater jacket I got for $2 at Goodwill. I love it because it is warm and automatically makes me feel classy. I also used my F21 purse that I've probably had for over 5 years. I only use the chain strap when I want to feel really grown-up, but I love how the floppy bow keeps it young. And lastly, I got to wear my new black pumps. I had been searching for an affordable pair and finally found these ones at Kmart for just $10. They are obviously not the most durable shoes, but they will definitely suffice for now.

I 've Got A Bad Feeling About This

Blue Tuxedo Placket Button-down - Chadwick's, Gift
Trench Coat - GAP
Floral Print Full Skirt - Violet, Nordstrom Rack
Yellow Jelly Flats - J. Crew
Gold Bracelets - from my Grandmother
Watch - Guess, Rose Bowl Flea Market

Today was a good day spent with friends. The weather was mild enough for me to not wear tights and to just wear a sweater (not pictured) and trench coat for warmth. I felt very springtime in my colors so I couldn't help but be cheerful all day.
I went to lunch at the Habit today for the first time. It's sort of a gourmet burger place, and I loved it! Although I have been vegetarian since last October, I was (in my meat-eating days) a HUGE burger person. So lately I am always on the lookout for a tasty veggie burger and theirs was super. Plus, they have perfect fries - not too salty, crispy and just skinny enough. I highly recommend it.

Getting back to my springtime thoughts, yesterday I finally let myself swing by Urban Outfitters for the first time since I stopped working there (I was a seasonal hire). I was curious to see what new spring items they had in stock. Well, I immediately fell in love with the peep-toe jelly flats they are selling. My J. Crew jelly flats are one of my favorite buys from last summer because they are so comfy and durable. The UO ones aren't for sale online yet, but in my local store they carried them in black, sea green, pink and taupe. I've got a bad feeling about this because I basically want all of them! I guess they're going on the wish list . . .

So Much Love

White Pashmina - Pier One, Gift
Navy Pinstripe Shirtdress- White Stag, Goodwill ($2!)
Black T-strap Flats - Wanted, Ross

This is what I wore to run some errands around town today. I pretty much love this shirtdress I bought a few weeks ago at Goodwill. It's the perfect length and even has pockets, so it's pretty much everything I could hope for. Even though there was some drizzle yesterday, today was a perfectly beautiful 65 degrees. Not only was I wearing open-toed shoes, I didn't even need a sweater or jacket!

Since the above photo doesn't really do it justice, here's a close-up of my crazily-painted toes:
It's matte green #7 from Urban Outfitters with black and silver glitter tiger stripes. A little kookier than I normally do, but I've rarely been wearing sandals so it was my own little secret until today.

Since I don't go back to work until Thursday, today was my last free Monday. I had to make a return at Anthropologie and had a lunch date with friends, but before I did all that I decided to swing by my local Goodwill. There are three Goodwills in the area, but one was recently moved to a brand new (and bigger) location. Since it is so much nicer than the two older ones, that's the one I went to this morning.

Obviously I don't really need anything so I was just stopping in to see if anything caught my eye. Well, it's a good thing I went in today because I managed to find a beautiful pair of Ralph Lauren riding boots.
They are very similar to the Frye boots that Jessica of What I Wore has and that Amazon sells here. Of course, the Frye version costs nearly $400, while I got these beauties for just $10! It was totally worth it since they are in excellent condition with only some wear on the soles. Now all I need is some cooler weather.

All That I Can Say

Yellow Cardigan - Old Navy
Grey Paisley Blouse - Worthington, Sears ($3)
Cyan Pencil Skirt - Amanda Smith, Goodwill
Grey Argyle Tights - JC Penney
Black Suede Flats - Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters

All that I can say is that right now I am STUFFED to capacity. I had some friends over tonight, and that meant lots of homemade food - green chile enchiladas (vegetarian for me), spanish rice (vegan for my cousin), refried beans and churros (vegan). And my friend Q even brought a homemade chocolate cake, so really there was too much goodness to handle.
Anyhow, this outfit is what I wore this morning, before I embarked on my major culinary endeavors. I just bought this blouse last Monday even though I didn't really love it, but since it was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. I wasn't overjoyed with this getup, but it was okay. I love wearing my yellow sweater, so at least I had that going for me.

On a side note, today was my first time making homemade churros. I also had to make them vegan for my cousin, but it wasn't too difficult. The recipe I used came from VeganMexicanFood.com, and it was pretty successful. The main thing I learned was to not let the oil get too hot so that each churro could stay in long enough to cook all the way through. Gooey undercooked churros aside, they were extra tasty and way cheaper than the $4 (!) ones I buy at Disneyland. I highly recommend them!

As Lucky As Lucky Can Be

Plaid Sweatshirt - Billabong, PacSun
Light Blue Tank Dress - Gap
Navy Blue Leggings - No Boundaries, WalMart
Gray Flat Boots - Charlotte Russe

Any guesses as to where I spent the day today? Well if my goofy grin didn't give it away, the cartoonish mailbox should make it clear that I went to Disneyland today. How awesome is it that I can just drive 20 minutes (w/o traffic) and be at Disneyland any day I'd like? This time I took my boss's son, my nephew and my cousin. They all have the whole week off from school for "ski week" (why kids living by the beach would get a ski week I'll never know), so I figured a trip to Disneyland would be the perfect outing.

Whenever I go to Disneyland, my main goal is always comfort since a trip there always means lots of walking and potentially long lines. What I wore today was about as comfy as my pjs, and kept me warm once the sun set. Even though I have been out of high school for almost 6 years, I still have an obsession with surf-brand hooded sweatshirts. This Billabong one I'm wearing is extra thick, reversible and only cost $10 on clearance! But hopefully I won't be buying anymore sweatshirts for a while, since I don't really wear them all that much.

My Gap dress is another one of my favorite pieces I bought last summer. It's made of really light cotton t-shirt material and even has pockets. While it's very clearly a warm weather dress, by pairing it with my undershirt, flannel and extra thick leggings I feel it was able to transition well into the winter.

And just as a heads up, there probably will be another Disneyland trip next week. My friend has some friends visiting from Ecuador, and they might potentially need me to take them to the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!

And Don't It Feel Good

Purple Cardgian - Canyon River Blues, Sears ($5.99!)
Grey Argyle Leotard - Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters
Blue Elastic Belt - Forever 21
Floral Print Skirt - Liz Claiborne, gift
Grey Suede Flats - Old Navy

It was 75 degrees and sunny today. I know everyone under mountains of snow on the east coast must hate me right now. Not only did I not wear tights today, I was also overdressed and sweating in my sweater, but I couldn't take it off because I loved it so much. I bought this sweater yesterday at Sears, and it will definitely be getting a lot of wear. It's the perfect shade of purple and has adorable fabric-covered buttons and ruching at the sleeves.

I also bought a grey paisley blouse for $3, and hopefully I will wear it at some point this week. I'm not the biggest fan of Sears (deep down I think it's a little too "mature woman" for me), but every now and then they have an exceptionally good sale and I can't help but check it out. Nothing much else from me today. Just going to enjoy this warm weather while it lasts, before the rain returns for a second round.

There Goes My Hero

Red Cardigan - Moda International, Goodwill
Yellow Ruffled Shell - Attention, Kmart
Navy High-waist Pleated Skirt - Zara, Goodwill
Metallic Gold Pumps - Steve Madden, Burlington Coat Factory
Bracelet - Gift from Japan

This outfit was inspired by a photo of blogger Kendi that I found here on Weardrobe. I've had this ruffled blouse for a while now, but I could never find a way to wear it that really worked. I'm happy with the way it turned out. And there was the added bonus of being decked out in my fave superhero's trademark colors. Besides, I couldn't help but wear bright colors on a day where it was a balmy 72 degrees! (Look, no tights!)
I bought these gold pumps to wear to a friend's wedding 2 years ago, and I've probably only worn them twice since. They are just so awesome and shiny, that I always feel they are too much for my usual outfits. Today, however,I was brave, and I think it worked. Yes, the shoes do make a statement, but it was good complement for the simplicity of the rest of my outfit.
I also was glad to wear this bracelet, which is originally from Japan. The blue/red/gold combo always reminds me of Wonder Woman, so it kept with the superhero theme I was going for. And of course the other bracelet is my leather id bracelet from Disneyland (only $9 at the little store right around the corner from the Tiki room). I never take it off, so that's in every outfit photo.

While I did do a little shopping today, my true joy came from the four skirts I just got back from my tailor. And by tailor, I mean my good friend K's mother, who can do almost anything with her sewing machine. Even though they aren't really new skirts, they feel new since they've finally been taken in to fit me properly. I'm sure they will make appearances shortly. So at least now you know why I look so happy in this picture:

Thunder Only Happens When It Rains

So while it rained yesterday, today it was a mild 60 degrees and sunny. It's all so confusing for me, which is why I never know how I am supposed to dress. Here is what I wore last night to my meeting:
Studded Bow Cloche - Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters
Black/White Sweater Jacket - Vintage, Goodwill
Overdyed Leotard - Danskin, Goodwill
Tweed Pencil Skirt - Isaac Mizrahi, Goodwill
Sweater Leggings - Gift from Mom
Leather Booties - Merona, Target
Quilted Gloves - Gift from friend

I felt very lady-like in this whole outfit, and I was totally in my comfort zone with the black/white color scheme. What I'm most proud of, however, is how cheap this whole outfit was. Adding the cost of all the items together (hat-$5, jacket-$2, leotard-$2, skirt-$2, booties-$10), this whole outfit only cost me only $21! Not too bad.

Today it was cold in the morning, but sunny and mild in the afternoon. So I skipped the coat, but wore a lot of layers.
Striped Blazer - Old Navy
Plaid Cardigan - Ross
Sparkle Tank Top(not pictured) - Ross
Pleated Sweaterdress - Old Navy
Black Tights - Target
Cobalt Blue Flats - Xhiliration, Target
Scarf - Mom's

I bought these flats at Target over the weekend for only $4! I'll be the first to say that I don't really need another pair of flats, but for $4 I couldn't pass them up. I think I'll be able to do more with them in the spring when I won't be confined to wearing tights, but I love their bright color.
Though I have no photo, today I also found a pair of black platform pumps. I have been searching for a plain pair of pumps for a while now so that I could finally throw out my old mary-janes that are really on their last leg. What mattered most to me was that they didn't cost too much money, and the pair I found today were only $10! Woo hoo. I'm sure they will make an appearance shortly.

I Should Have Showed You Better Nights

Double-breasted Cream Blazer - Silence & Noise, Urban Outfitters
Black Cap-Sleeve Dress - Isaac Mizrahi, Target
Black Long-strap Purse - Wilson's Leather
Suede Leopard Pumps - Deena & Ozzy, Urban Outfitters

So this is actually Sunday's outfit. Today was such a long, hectic and emotionally draining day that I was unable to get an outfit picture. Yesterday was much more low key. The dress I wore (though it is kind of drowning in my gigantic blazer) is one of my favorites. Such a classic shape and style that can go with almost anything. I paired it was it my fave leopard heels. Not only do they look cool, but they are also extra comfy.
While I realize that most of America spent yesterday watching the Superbowl (go Saints!), guess where I was? Why Disneyland, of course. My friends and I were hoping that it would be empty since it was Superbowl Sunday, but we were mistaken. It wasn't terribly crowded, but we ended up spending most of our time eating and only going on a handful of rides. Not that eating isn't fun.

Oddly enough, I was invited by a completely different group of friends to go to Disneyland again today. I passed because I had to go to a memorial service and my usual Pilates class. But I did consider it for a few seconds. What can I say, I love Mickey.

Get Back To Where You Once Belonged

Silver Leaf Earrings - Claire's
Black 3/4 Sleeve Blouse - GAP
Pink Floral Print Sleeveless Dress - Jonathan Martin, from at least 7 years ago
Red Sleeveless Sweater Vest - Koret Career, Goodwill
Red Opaque Tights - Xhiliration, Target
Black Opaque Tights - HUE, Ross
(not pictured: black pashmina, black Forever 21 Trench Coat)

So I woke up this morning and was shocked to find it was seriously raining. I know my photo makes it look like snow, but that's clearly just my camera playing tricks. Now rain doesn't particularly upset me, but pretty much every time it rains in L.A. people drive like maniacs and act like it's a state of emergency. Poor sheltered beach folk.
I've had the dress I wore today for ages. It's very much a summer piece, but since I layered so many other things with it, I managed to keep warm and dry. I especially liked my tights. I was inspired by Mel at ideegeniale who layered yellow tights under her black ones for warmth. Granted, I am sure her idea of cold and mine are vastly different, but I still liked the idea. Plus, the muted red went really well with the whole outfit.

Now I had been doing so well about not shopping this week, but yesterday I fell off the wagon. I went with a couple friends to the mall yesterday afternoon/evening. At Express I found my dream pair of shorts on clearance. I've been lusting after sequined clothing for the past couple months, but haven't been able to find a piece I loved the look and price of. The Express shorts where perfect - not to short, loose-fitting, black, and covered in tiny matte sequins. Just enough excitement, but not too flashy. I was determined to not buy anything, however, so I just walked out of the store empty-handed even though the shorts were only $12!

Well all today I was still thinking about the proverbial "shorts that got away," so after work I gave in and swung by the mall to pick them up.
Am I weak-willed? Yes. But I am also the proud owner of some awesome new sequin shorts! Don't judge me.

Just Because I'm Losing Doesn't Mean I'm LOST

Floral Scarf - Divided, H&M (purchased in Spain)
Black Velvet Blazer w/ Pinstripes - Bitten by SJP via Goodwill
Gray Pinstripe Sheath - Merona via Goodwill
Black Leather Perforated Flats - Kimchi Blue, Urban Outfitters

So I was working with a lot of stripes today. Although, they where all in a neutral color palette so it wasn't that dramatic. I spent most of yesterday sleeping off my cold and folding laundry in my pajamas. Today I opted to join the functioning world again, but I wanted to stay bundled up to prevent a relapse. The weather was in the low-to-mid 60s so I dressed accordingly - no coat, but thick socks and a light scarf to prevent any early morning chill. Suffice to say, I think I am almost fully recovered.
Even more important than my outfit, however, is the fact that LOST is finally back! I am one of the biggest LOSTies out there (I even made shirts for me and my friends one year), so I am ecstatic the show is finally going to end and give me all the answers I have been dying to know. While last night's premiere was great, it did leave me a bit underwhelmed. That being said, I did watch all two hours again today with my BFF so we could analyze the entire thing together.

[SPOILER ALERT!] I enjoyed the whole concept of both eventualities of the characters being shown simultaneously, and I loved finally learning who/what the smoke monster is. But a lot of the episode felt like stuff I already knew like the real identity of fLocke (faux+Locke) or the fact that Sayid would live. Other parts felt like filler, particularly the whole drama of redsicovering Juliet only to have her die again. What a waste of time, especially since it took me 6 months to get over her death in the first place!

I'm also hoping there will be more clarity as to whether the people hanging around with ageless Richard are on the same team as the hippie Temple crowd. That seems a bit unclear to me now. All of that aside, this ep really reminded me of the million nitpicky questions I've had for the past 5 years and I desperately hope all of them are answered by the time this season is over. So in the meantime, I am keeping the faith. I
will understand this all one day.

Make You Feel My Love

Tortoise Shell Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters
Yellow Cardigan - Old Navy
Hellogoodbye T-shirt - Hellogoodbye concert, years ago
Black Skinny Belt - Claire's
Pull-on Legging Jean -Silence & Noise, Urban Outfitters
Gray Flat Boots - Charlotte Russe
Gold/Silver Chain Necklace - Rue 21

So I really do love this yellow sweater. So much so that I felt the need to wear it again today. This look is obviously more casual than yesterday's, but the sweater took it up a notch. Again, it is so soft that it was perfect for what my day entailed.

I took my friend's two daughters to see When in Rome this morning. I am the world's biggest Veronica Mars fan, so I pretty much try to support anything Kristen Bell ever does. I had high hopes for it, but it sort of left me underwhelmed. It was cute and funny at times, but not as memorable as I would have liked. Still Kristen and Josh Duhamel are extra cute together, so it was fun watching them. And it was significantly more entertaining than Leap Year, which was the last rom-com I saw in theaters.

Sadly, I fear I may be coming down with a cold. It started with a sore throat a couple of days ago, and currently I have some nasal congestion going on. From the first symptoms I started taking Alka-seltzer cold and drinking massive amounts of orange juice, so I'm hoping I'll at least be able to shorten the span of whatever this is. I'm still pretty high functioning so maybe it won't get too bad. I'm even considering still going to pilates tonight. We'll see what happens.
